A quick-moving system bringing snow caused slippery driving conditions with reduced visibility during the morning commute.
The snowfall has become lighter after 7 a.m. Friday, March 1, but precipitation, including snow showers and flurries, continued through around 8:30 a.m. for much of the area before tapering off.
Numerous crashes were reported. Among them:
In Westchester, a crash reported at 7:15 a.m. initially blocked two lanes on the northbound Taconic State Parkway in Mount Pleasant near Route 100/Route 133.
A crash that occurred just before 7:30 a.m. also blocked two lanes on southbound I-95 at Mamaroneck Avenue before being cleared.
An 8:15 a.m. crash northbound on the Saw Mill River Parkway at Exit 23 led to backups to I-287.
In Fairfield County, a crash on Route 7 caused delays near Cains Hill Road in Ridgefield.
In Rockland County, a crash caused gridlock on southbound I-87 at Exit 14 in Spring Valley.
Most of the area got about an inch of accumulation from this system, with up to 2 inches in some parts of the region.
The rest of the day Friday will remain cloudy with a high temperature around 38 degrees.
